Russell Hobbs Kitchen Appliances IntroductionRussell Hobbs was founded in 1952, when Bill Russell and Peter Hobbs decided to bring their expertise together with the aim of launching a range of cutting edge electronics and accessories for the home and kitchen. Only a few years later Russell Hobbs designed the K1 Kettle, the first kettle to be able to automatically switch off before boiling over. The company also pioneered the microchip kettle and flat element kettle. Russell Hobbs hasnt just been a market leader as far as technology is concerned. It was the first company to add printed patterns to their plastic kettles and, over the years, were the first to introduce a satin finish kettle and a fast boil model. The company also led the way with design innovations for other kitchen appliances such as toasters. The brands reputation within the UK led to it being brought in 1991 by Pifco Limited, a company with a long and successful history as a designer and distributor within the electrical industry. Pifco changed its name to the Salton Inc Group in 2001 and Russell Hobbs is now within the Salton European Limited branch. Other brands operating under the umbrella of Salton include George Foreman, Pifco, Haden, and Ultrasonex.
