Rowenta Kitchen Appliances – Introduction

Rowenta was founded in Germany in 1884 by Robert Weintraud. Originally called Weintraud & Co, the company didn’t register the Rowenta brand name until 1909. The company was initially associated with smoking accessories and toiletries rather than the kitchen appliances that Rowenta is known for today.

The company launched the first of its household appliances, including irons, kettles and coffee makers, in the 1920s but it wasn’t until 1975 that Rowenta UK was launched to replace the Sunbeam UK division. Rowenta decided that the best way to attack a saturated home appliance market would be to offer a range of high quality products which included a range of features that most customers wouldn’t have previously seen.

The plan worked and the company’s success within the UK led to the design and manufacture of the first tap water iron and the first cool wall toaster.

Rowenta is now under the umbrella of Group SEB, which has a footing in over 120 countries. The Rowenta brand makes a number of different types of home appliance including kettles, juicers, irons, handheld vacuum cleaners, fans and heaters.Image of Rowenta Steam Generator
