Morphy Richards IntroductionDonal Morphy and Charles Richards had worked together at an electric fire company, one as an engineer and the other as a salesman. In 1935, they decided to set up a company which would specialise in producing good quality, affordable electrical goods. Morphy Richards was extremely successful from the beginning, taking what had previously seen as luxury electrical appliances and drastically undercutting its competitors prices. Soon households across the land had Morphy Richards steam irons and vacuum cleaners, and the company even enjoyed a 90% market share with its hairdryers. During the 1950s, the two owners fell out about the company vision for the future and Morphy Richards was taken over by EMI in 1960. A number of different companies have taken over Morphy Richards since then, but the brand has continued to grow in popularity, and is now owned by the Glen Dimplex Group. Morphy Richards now produce a wide range of household appliances.
