Cuisinart Appliances – Introduction

Cuisinart was the idea of Carl and Shirley Sontheimer who, after seeing a large food preparation machine at work whilst in France, decided that a food processor in every home in America could revolutionise cooking.

In 1975, Sontheimer took his prototype food processor to numerous food authorities and chefs in an attempt to spread the word of Cuisinart. The company experienced a meteoric rise and became one of the leading kitchenware brands in America, as it constantly pushed the boundaries of design and performance of its products.

In 1985, Cuisinart launched a brand of choppers and grinders called the Mini-Mate which saw yet another boom in business. As a result, the Sontheimers decided to sell the company.

Cuisinart is now owned by the Conair Corporation, a nationwide manufacturer of consumer electronics based in Connecticut. Since taking over Cuisinart, the Conair Corporation has helped the brand to gain a worldwide reputation as a leading brand of kitchen appliance.
